End of 2025 New York State Legislative Session - Election Related Bills on Gov. Hochul's Desk

By: Joseph T. Burns

With the end of the 2025 New York State Legislative session, attention now turns to the Executive Chamber and Governor Kathy Hochul’s decision to sign or veto legislation that has been approved by both the State Senate and Assembly.

A number of election-related bills await Gov. Hochul’s signature or veto.  This includes:

  • S1842/A6138, a bill to allow election inspectors and poll clerks to work split shifts (or half-days);
  • S1030/A3415, a bill to require that the public facing website of a political committee contain a “Paid for by” attribution;
  • S923/A7804, a bill that moves voters previously enrolled in the Independence Party to being enrolled in no party; and
  • S8418/A8883, a bill altering the boundaries of the 5th, 7th and 8th Judicial Districts and creating the 14th and 15th Judicial Districts.

Gov. Hochul will take action on these and other bills in the weeks and months ahead, and we will provide updates on these and other proposals when appropriate.
